As a writer I’m lucky, I have the chance to meet many interesting people. Even so, some stand out – Carlos Vasquez of UNICEF is one of them. When I met him, during his brief visit to London from New York, I soon discovered his passion for building sustainably and his understanding of the way buildings contribute to the life of communities and especially children. As an architect he’s worked in difficult environments across the globe as he addresses ‘the social injustice of climate change’ and, during my hour with him, I was humbled by his enthusiasm, dedication and the simple logic of what he said. The resulting piece appeared in EcoHouse, a Show House supplement, and can be read here.
